What Is GameForge Guild?

An after-school coding guild where young learners become creators — not just consumers — of technology.

GameForge Guild is a small-group coding club for ages 9–12, designed to introduce the foundations of programming through structured, hands-on game creation.

The programme runs in focused 6-week blocks, with 90-minute sessions once per week. Students learn core programming principles in Java before transitioning into creative coding with Processing to build simple, interactive games from scratch.

This isn't passive screen time.
It's creative problem-solving.
It's logical thinking made visible.
It's confidence earned through building something real.

Students don't just "learn to code."
They begin thinking like engineers — understanding how systems work, how games respond to input, and how ideas become playable experiences.

Luke, GameForge Guild instructor

GameForge Guild is led by Luke, a Computer Science student specialising in Games and Media, with a genuine passion for both technology and teaching.

Alongside his university studies, Luke builds his own game development projects and explores how software systems are designed and brought to life. He has also spent years working with children in teaching roles — swimming instruction, martial arts coaching, and Clip 'n Climb sessions — developing a patient, structured, and encouraging teaching style.

"Coding can seem complicated from the outside. My aim is to make it clear, approachable, and genuinely enjoyable."

What Parents Say

From Luke's teaching record with young learners.

"We've seen a massive change in our son's confidence since he started training with Luke. He used to hold back in group settings, but now he's much more willing to step forward and get involved. Luke has a real knack for bringing kids out of their shells, and we can genuinely see the difference in his self-esteem."

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for parents and guardians.

Does my child need a laptop?
A laptop (Windows or Mac) is recommended so work can continue at home. If your child doesn't have one, let us know on the application — we can discuss options and a spare device may be available where possible.
Does my child need prior coding experience?
No experience is needed. Level 1 is designed for complete beginners. Students who have used Scratch or Roblox Studio will pick things up faster, but no prior knowledge is assumed.
Is the instructor DBS checked?
Yes. Luke holds a current Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate. Public Liability Insurance is also in place for all sessions, and a clear safeguarding policy is maintained at all times.
What are the payment options?
The course fee is £125 per student for the full 6-week block. Installment arrangements are available at discretion for families who prefer to spread the cost — this can be discussed privately after a successful application and will not affect the outcome of your application.
